WWCF Celebrates Mother’s Day

hobmothersdayWWCF will start its celebration of Mother’s Day with a tribute to women produced by The House of Blues Radio Hour on Saturday, May 7th at 6 PM. In this episode, host Elwood Blues (aka Dan Aykroyd) sits down with three contemporary blues mamas: Sally Kellerman, Rory Block, and Eden Brent to talk about their recent projects.  Includes music by Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Marcia Ball and more.

Tune in the following day, Sunday, May 8th at 4 PM, when we’ll explore the origin of Mother’s Day with the story of Julia Ward Howe’s 1871 Proclamation for Peace and her call for a universal Mother’s Day to promote peace and disarmament. Host Carol Boss talks with Kate Stickley, a direct descendant of Howe, and Jane Smith Bernhardt, an actor who portrays Howe onstage.

April Programs

Spring is in the air, and so are a number of special programs we have scheduled for the rest of April.

In recognition of Earth Day, this Friday, April 22nd, at 2 PM, we’ll be broadcasting Food and Climate Change. This hour-long program by Climate One focuses on the food and energy solutions proposed outside of the closed door negotiations at the latest climate summit in Paris, and the prospects for countries actually making good on their promises.

April is also National Poetry Month, and we’ll be highlighting one of music’s most celebrated wordsmiths, Bob Dylan. Starting at 7 PM on April 20th, tune in for Shakespeare in the Alley: Bob Dylan’s Poetics, an hour of discussion of Dylan’s lyrics as poetry. Join us every Wednesday at 7 PM for the next episode in this 12-part series.

St. Patrick’s Day Programs

Join WWCF this week as we go green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Tune in for programs highlighting music by Irish artists such as The Chieftains and Van Morrison, as well as a lesser-known chapter of American history regarding Irish-Americans.
